A protest in Piltown has halted the erection of a telecommunications pole this morning.
From 9.30am this morning, parents of children at the local national school have been gathering with signs and placards.
While it remains unclear what the proposed pole is for, signs reading 'Piltown says no to untested 5g masts' have been held by those protesting.
Speaking to WLR News, Joanne, a local parent says the fear of the unknown is driving the protest.
She says: "We are not against advances in technology, it's just the unknown, we don't know."
The work commenced early this morning roughly 200 metres from the local national school in Piltown.
Some of the protesters gathered are parents of children attending the school.
Joanne says there was no engagement from Kilkenny Council prior to work starting.
Another local woman, Lisa Mullen, says they will not be moving from their protest as they did not consent to a telecommunications pole in the region.
