Excitement is building in Ballyduff Upper, as one of their own will be wearing the sash for Waterford at the Rose of Tralee tonight.

Helen Geary, who's an Audit Associate at KPMG in Cork, will be taking to the stage for the second of the televised parts.

Helen's mother, Margaret, says the whole of Ballyduff Upper has been hugely supportive.

"They're really happy for her. Genuinely happy.

"They gave her a great send-off on the 11th of August - she's been doing bits and pieces around the parish and they have posters up.

"I couldn't believe on Saturday, the amount of people that came down!

"Some came on a bus and we had families coming down with children.

"The support and cheer she got... I was in tears it was so amazing. I could nearly even cry now as they've been so good to her."

The Rose Tour is a notoriously busy tour for those involved in the competition, but it seems it wasn't busy enough for Helen, who also sat her final accountancy exams right in the middle of it all!

"She's been on study leave for the last couple of months," explains her mother, Margaret, "These accounting exams are huge so she did two exams on a Thursday and on Tuesday - each were four-and-a-half hour exams - and then she did another exam the following Thursday.

"In the middle of the Rose Tour.

"She went off with a suitcase full of books but the festival committee have been brilliant in facilitating her."

Margaret says the Rose experience has been fantastic for Helen, who has now made 32 new friends from all over the world.

She is an only child but her mother says she certainly won't be short of support in Kerry tonight.

"There's a huge crowd down. Her friends and cousins, uncles and aunts - the whole shebang will be there!

"She's delighted she got this opportunity.

"You do it just once and that's it and she's delighted to be representing Ballyduff Upper and Waterford."
