The Pride Flag will be raised once more in Waterford city tomorrow afternoon.
It comes after the previous banners on The Mall were burned in the early hours of Monday morning.
The attack came at the end of the Pride of the Deise festival for the LGBTQ+ community.
Gardaí are investigating the incident and treating it as criminal damage.
Shane O'Sullivan, from the Pride of the Deise group, he says they will be returning the flag to its rightful place tomorrow at 12 noon.
"We have to be visible when things like this happen and we're going to re-raise the flag with the mayor on the Mall," Shane said.
"What's happened has really shocked us all and what we endeavour to do in Pride of the Deise is try to build a community and make a safe space in Waterford for young queer, young gay and young trans people," he said, "And what happened with the flags was an absolute show of hate towards us and that breeds a situation whereby young people especially might not feel that they're not comfortable to come out within themselves and to be visible."
Re-raising the flag would help promote that visibility for the community, he added. "Small signs of hate that exist won't put us down."
