The incidence rate of Covid-19 in the Portlaw / Kilmacthomas local electoral area remains the highest in Ireland for the second week running.
It comes as 1,817 cases were recorded in County Waterford in the fortnight up to Monday December 13th.
The latest figures show that while cases in Portlaw / Kilmacthomas have fallen by 11% compared to a week prior, it remains the worst affected area in the country as roughly 1 in 47 people locally contracted Covid in the two-week period.
366 cases were confirmed in the locality with the incidence rate now at 2,137.9 per 100,000 people.
That figure is 61% higher than the then national average of 1,305.1.
County Waterford
Waterford City South is also among the ten worst affected regions in Ireland.
The LEA is 4th on the list as a result of 439 positive Covid cases between November 30th and December 13th.
That represents a 15.2% rise in cases, with the incidence rate locally now at 1,953.2 - 1 in every 51 people.
The largest rise in cases in Waterford has occurred in Lismore. Figures have jumped by 60% from 148 cases to 238. The incidence rate of 1,482.7 is also above the national average.
Three areas in Waterford have an incidence rate below that figure. The most significant decrease has come in the Dungarvan LEA.
238 cases were confirmed locally, compared to 291 a week prior, a fall of 18%. The incidence rate is 1,161.1.
Cases have risen slightly in both Tramore / Waterford City West and Waterford City East although figures do remain relatively static.
A further 10 cases were confirmed in Tramore / Waterford City West (+3.75%) while an additional four were noted in Waterford City East (+1.6%).
Tramore / Waterford City West saw 276 cases. City East has the lowest incidence rate in the county at 1,131.1, on account of a further 260 cases.
National picture
Nationally, Waterford has the sixth-highest incidence rate in Ireland. The highest rate is in Carlow, with the lowest in Mayo.
The Manorhamilton LEA in County Leitrim has the lowest rate in Ireland at 508.3.
