A prominent Waterford City building has been put up for sale.

Described as one of Munster's finest classical, working city premises, the Port of Waterford building on George's Street is being listed by Sherry Fitzgerald John Rohan for almost a million euro.

Four storeys tall, it was built in 1795, designed by Waterford's famous Georgian architect, John Roberts.

Original features include an exquisite spiral staircase on an oval plan with a glazed dome overhead, stone flooring, original fireplaces, timber sash windows, and coving.

The basement was refurbished in 2007, with the addition of original style arches allowing for a more open plan configuration.

The Waterford Chamber of Commerce is based in the front half of the first floor. It is held on foot of a lease which allows the Chamber rent free usage of the space until 2053.

The rear half of the first floor is rented by Waterford Chamber for €16,000 per annum.

There is a spacious yard to the rear allowing access and parking.

The building last went on the market in 2014 but the value of the building has risen considerably since then when it was listed for €340,000.
