Waterford has recorded a population rise of 3,300 over the past year, according to the latest Population and Migration Estimates published by the Central Statistics Office.
By April 2025, the county’s population was estimated at 134,100, up from 130,800 in 2024.
These figures are provisional, as definitive counts only come from the national census conducted every five years.
The most recent census, in 2022, recorded 127,363 residents – meaning Waterford has grown by about 10% since then.
The annual estimates are based on people usually living in the area.
Growth among women outpaced that of men.
The female population rose from 66,000 to 68,300, while the male population increased more modestly, from 64,800 to 65,800.
No significant shifts were seen across the age categories.
Population growth was reported across all Irish regions.
