A planning application has been lodged with Waterford City & County Council for the conversion of a prominent former shoe shop premises.

The application relates to the premises at 12 Barronstrand Street, Waterford City which formerly operated as Clarks.

The application consists of the sub-division of the existing ground floor retail unit to a new ground floor restaurant/take-away, with access only from Barronstrand Street, with signage as required, and all associated site development works.

Clarks shoe shop closed its doors in Waterford last year after years of trading in the city centre. The premises had entrances from both Barronstrand Street and John Roberts Square.

Prior to becoming Clarks, the shoe store operated as Coads for many years.

The unit has been vacant since the closure of Waterford's Clarks store in 2022.
