Works on a skatepark in Dungarvan are expected to get underway by the late summer to early autumn.
A presentation on plans for the park which will be located at Fairlane (close to the Aldi car-park in the town) was made at this week's Dungarvan-Lismore Council Meeting.
The 600 square-metre public space will include a junior cycling area, skate bowl, outdoor performance area, BMX pump track, jogging track, outdoor gym and a picnic area.
Kieran Kehoe a Director of Services with Waterford City and County Council gives an outline of the timeframe so far.
"The application which is being made in conjunction with Dungarvan Lions club will be made in the next week and it will probably take two or three months for that to be approved.
"That brings us all towards the end of the summertime where we would hope that we'd be getting boots on the ground in relation to getting these works started.
"It would be a six-nine month work programme easily in relation to doing that depending on the time of the year," Kehoe said.
Although the skatepark will facilitate experienced skaters, Kehoe explained how there are also spaces for younger skate-enthusiasts.
"I've seen where these are being used and they're being used by kids from seven through to thirty-seven and they're all using it all at the same time - that's what it's designed for.
There is a small trainer area, and an area for the more experienced skaters and you want that mix so it doesn't just become a zone for the 18 to 20-year-olds.
"This is a place for those from six to sixty to practise on the scooters, skateboards or whatever you have," Kieran Kehoe said.
