Planning has been received for the construction of a water treatment plant in Bunmahon.
MBD Developments Ltd is seeking to construct an integrated constructed wetland with a total site area of 2.07 hectares.
The manmade structures are shallow ponds that act as a filtering system using plants to treat water and remove harmful chemicals.
The wetland will consist of 3 treatment cells and associated infrastructure on lands located to the northwest of the village, and to the west of the Mahon River.
Wastewater will flow using gravity from an inlet chamber for treatment.
The final treated water from the ICW will be discharged to the Mahon River.
