Construction works at the North Quays in Waterford City are on track to start early in the new year.
Falcon Real Estate Development is expected to lodge the planning application in the next week or so.
Director of Services for Economic Development & Planning with Waterford Council Michael Quinn gave an update to Councillors:
“The planning applications are due in, the Part 8 and the developer planning application in the next week or so. We’ll have decisions made on those in September.
“Detailed design in many respects is underway already, that part of the process will be completed in March
“The tender process will start in the next few months for some preliminary works and will roll-on over the following nine months and will be broadly completed in September 2020
Construction it’s expected will be completed in and around mid-2022.”

Elsewhere, the CEO Waterford Council says he would be satisfied that they will have enough funding for this year’s works on the North Quays development.
The local authority was awarded six million euro for the project last November under the urban regeneration fund.
Fianna Fail’s Eddie Mulligan wants to know if that’s enough for 2019.
“In relation to the North Quays and the road infrastructure, when is that going to tender?
“I see in our application for grant aid from the government we envisioned we would have a cash need of €18m for 2019.
“How are we doing on that, are we going to have to slow down works?
CEO Michael Walsh says the road works are in detailed design at present:
“I think they won’t go to tender until the tail end of the year or the very start of the year. That is the programme timeline for that.
“On funding in the current year, I would be satisfied that we will have a sufficiency of funding in the current year.
“We’re still in detailed discussion with the Department of Housing. They’ve indicated to us that the programme is a multi-annual programme and isn’t subject to annual funding per se.
“We would be hoping that those discussions will be completed in the next couple of months.”
