All remaining derelict ‘phone kiosks in Waterford City are to be decommissioned and removed this week.

Mayor of Waterford City and County Council, Cllr. Joe Conway has been liaising with Eir over a number of months and a programme of works is now in place.

"Their presence has been negatively impacting on our streetscapes for some time now. The issue came into focus with me when, as Mayor, I was asked to be present and the memorial service to our veterans at the monument in Barrack Street. Here, the view and ambience of this respectful plot was overshadowed by a vandalised kiosk."

The work is due to begin in Barrack Street and will be completed in Blackfriars on Friday, dependent on weather.
