South East Healthcare is urging people to dispose of any unused drugs they have in their homes.
This comes amid a free campaign to get rid of out of date drugs is running at the vaccination services centre at Kilcohan.
Fiona Maher pharmacist with the South East Community Healthcare Vaccination Centres told WLR that they are encouraging people to have a spring clean.
"By our nature we hold onto things," she said, "and a lot of those things she says can be unused or out of date medication."
South East Healthcare is urging people to bring their old medication to the new DUMP (Dispose of Unused Drugs Properly) centre at the vaccination service at Kilcohan.
For households who do have medication in their homes, Fiona advises looking at what is in the cupboards and gathering what is unlikely to be used or out-of-date.
"Do you know what what you have and why you are taking it. Know, check, ask, ensure that what you are getting is what you are taking."
Referring to Beaumont Hospitals policy on poison information which saw 11,000 queries in 2021, she said of those, 60% were in relation to children.
"Everybody knows children are curious and they love getting into things they shouldn't be. If you have smallies coming in and out of the house, make sure they don't have access."
