Music legend Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, his family have confirmed in a statement this evening.
He passed away at home, surrounded by family, after several years of serious health issues.
Osbourne was born in Birmingham, England, in 1948 and became known as the lead singer of Black Sabbath, a band formed in 1968.
Their early albums, including Paranoid and Master of Reality, are widely cited as foundational in the development of heavy metal. After leaving the band in 1979, Osbourne launched a solo career, releasing multiple studio albums such as Blizzard of Ozz and No More Tears, and collaborating with guitarists including Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde.
In recent years, Osbourne faced significant health problems. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020 and had previously suffered spinal injuries related to a 2003 ATV accident and a fall in 2019. These issues limited his mobility and led to the cancellation of several live performances.
Despite this, Osbourne appeared at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025, for a one-off concert titled Back to the Beginning. He performed seated and delivered a brief solo set before reuniting on stage with the original Black Sabbath lineup: Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. The event also featured other musicians associated with his career.
Osbourne was also known for his family’s presence in the media. He and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, had six children. In the early 2000s, their family starred in the MTV reality television series The Osbournes, which aired from 2002 to 2005. The show became one of MTV’s most successful non-music programs at the time and brought increased public attention to their family life.
Osbourne’s contributions to music earned him multiple accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Black Sabbath in 2006, and again as a solo artist in 2024. Over the course of his career, he sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
