Outpatient waiting list at University Hospital Waterford reaches 42,544

Over half a million patients are waiting for a first hospital outpatient consultation.

New Public Hospital Waiting List data by the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) shows there were 567,329 people on that list.

University Hospital Waterford has one of the longest outpatient lists in the country. 42,325 people were waiting for an initial appointment with a consultant at the end of April.

It's second only to Galway University Hospital which has 42,544 cases.

Otolaryngology (ENT) has the longest waiting list in Waterford with 10,053 people waiting for their first outpatient appointment. Almost half of them - 4,940 are on that list for at least 18 months.

6,804 are on the Orthopaedics list and 5,181 are waiting for a Dermatology appointment in Waterford.

The NTPF data also reveals 86,343 patients were waiting for an appointment for their inpatient or day case treatment at the end of April.

The figure in Waterford is 5,434. It's the fourth highest in the country, once again Galway University Hospital tops the list with 9,537.

Meanwhile 34,110 people were waiting to receive an appointment for their GI Endoscopy. The figure in Waterford is 792. Tallaght University Hospital has the longest list in the country with 3,081 people waiting.
