Over €893,000 in funding has been allocated to support outdoor recreation projects across Cappoquin, Villierstown, and Dunmore East under Measures 2 and 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).

The funding will be used to enhance local amenities, promote tourism, and improve access to outdoor spaces in Waterford’s rural communities.

The projects include:

Cappoquin Railway Bridge Loop Walk – Phase 2 Development: Extending the trail from Cappoquin Slipway to the Viaduct ‘Viewing Point’ and from Cappoquin Rowing Club grounds to Avonmore Bridge (€493,454).

Dunmore East Coastal Walk Upgrade: Improving the trail surface between Portally Cove and Ballymacaw Cove (€200,000).

Villierstown Quay Enhancement Project: Upgrading facilities to support water-based outdoor recreation (€200,000).

Welcoming the investment, Waterford Fine Gael TD and Minister of State John Cummins said it represents “another injection of this Government’s funds into Waterford,” adding that it will deliver “significant economic and social benefits for our rural communities.”

He also noted, “Anyone who has ever been to Waterford knows just how fortunate we are to have so many places of natural beauty. The ORIS aims to improve these amenities even further, making them more enjoyable places to visit.”

Minister Cummins said he looks forward to seeing the projects completed and encouraged locals to make use of “the amazing outdoor facilities we have on offer throughout the county.”
