Businesses received a major boost over the bank holiday weekend in the county. Waterford played host to two major festivals Spraoi and All Together Now over the weekend.
The county is on track to welcoming over one million visitors before the year is out according to Visit Waterford. Speaking on Deise Today, chair Sara Dolan says businesses benefited greatly.
"I think it's a very exciting time for Waterford, particularly for tourism. I think people are realising what we have to offer here, and festivals are just one part of that and play a very important role.
"We will be able to attribute one million festival goers before the end of the year just in Waterford itself which is fantastic.
"It's a complete showcase for Waterford. We made sure that everything was in order to accommodate last weekend with Spraoi and All Together Now. Events like these generate business for the person next door, and we hope the same for future festivals."
Over 25 thousand people descended to the Curraghmore Estate for ATN, with similar numbers attending Spraoi.
Sara continued," Traditionally when you think of festivals you think music, but I suppose the fact we have such a wide range of festivals means that there is something for everyone. It's not just music it's art, theatre, and food which are vital for Waterford as we are a food destination. We are leaning towards our strengths and I think as a county we are good at organising festivals.
"To mention a few we have the racing in Tramore over August, Waterford Walls, Dunmore East with the Bluegrass festival, the Harvest Festival in September, Vitamin Sea festival in Tramore, the John Dwyer Festival, Imagine Arts, the festival of architecture and not forgetting Winterval."
