One man was arrested following searches today by the  Criminal Assets Bureau in Waterford City.

CAB were assisted by the Regional Armed Response Unit, Waterford District Detective Office and the Revenue Customs Office Dog Unit.

The man in his 30s who was arrested is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Waterford Garda Station.

The items seized included a 191 Volkswagen Arteon, a 151 Volkswagen Passat, Approximately €1,000 in cash, Quantity of Cocaine
Herbal Cannabis and MDMA .

This morning's search operation has been described as a significant development in an on-going investigation targeting assets deriving from the proceeds of crime in the Waterford area.

STATEMENT FROM CAB

The Criminal Assets Bureau assisted by the Regional Armed Response Unit, Waterford District Detective Office and the Revenue Customs Office Dog Unit conducted searches this morning, 22/10/2019, at two locations in Waterford City.

A man in his 30s has been arrested been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Waterford Garda Station.

The following items of note were seized -

o Volkswagen Arteon 191 Registration - Detained under the provisions of Section 1A Proceeds of Crime Acts 1996 and 2016 (new power of administrative seizure created by Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act, 2016)
o Volkswagen Passat 151 Registration - Detained under the provisions of Section 1A Proceeds of Crime Acts 1996 and 2016.
o Approximately €1,000 in cash
o Quantity of Cocaine
o Quantity of Herbal Cannabis
o Quantity of MDMA

This morning's search operation is a significant development in an on-going investigation targeting assets deriving from the proceeds of crime in the Waterford area. This operation further indicates the effective operation of the Asset Profiler Programme whereby local Gardaí can suggest likely local lower and mid-tier targets for consideration by the Criminal Assets Bureau.
