Numerous roads across Waterford city and county saw closures and local diversions today as a result of the heavy and sustained rainfall from Storm Chandra
Met Éireann warned in a statement this morning that persistent rainfall on already saturated ground, combined with gusty conditions, may lead to localised flooding in areas with less drainage.
Road closures had been confirmed in parts of the County throughout the day, including the R709 Inner Ring Road near Supervalu, with motorists in the area advised to avoid the road if possible.
Following these closures there has also been warnings issued about water levels in local rivers and lakes. With flooding conditions seen in Portlaw.

Other road closures around Waterford include the closure of the Cooltegin Road L8057, which was closed due to fallen tree. Local diversions have been put in place for those affected in the area.
The public has been advised throughout the day to slow down on the roads, avoid unnecessary travel, never drive through flooded roads, and stay away from coastal areas while conditions remain hazardous.
