The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 at University Hospital Waterford has increased.
According to the HSE's Daily Operations Update, there were 12 confirmed cases on site last night. The figure was 11 on Thursday night.
Two of those patients were in intensive care, a further two suspected cases were also being treated in ICU.
According to the HSE, there was just one critical care bed available (open & staffed) at University Hospital Waterford yesterday. However, UHW has created additional surge capacity since the outbreak of the virus and is able to ventilate 31 people if needed.
40 people were in hospital with Covid-19 across the South East last night, the numbers of confirmed cases at St Luke's in Kilkenny dropped by two to 21, there were 5 patients with Covid-19 in Wexford and 2 in South Tipperary.
92 new cases of Covid-19 were announced in the South East yesterday, 59 of those were in Wexford alone. In total, 651 people were diagnosed with the virus in the region between the 4th and the 17th of December. The 14-day incidence rate in the South East is now 127.6. The national rate is 100.8.
