The North Quays Development remains 'broadly on target', according to a member of Waterford City & County Council's Executive.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer & Director of Economic Development & Planning at Waterford City & County Council, Michael Quinn, addressed concerns raised by Sinn Fein Councillor Joeanne Bailey at a recent Plenary meeting of the local authority.
She sought clarity with regards to costs from developers BAM - in light of the ongoing debacle that is the development of the National Children's Hospital.
"We have site consultants who review all bills that come in and they would then make a recommendation to the project team", outlined Mr. Quinn. "The project team then do a further review on all bills, again to make sure that they're broadly reasonable, that they're in line with budget, in line with estimates that we would have had in the overall work programme and in line with the overall work plan and payment schedule that we would have with BAM. It's a fairly robust process and we have certainly had no significant issues in our work with BAM in relation to that."
"In relation to the overall North Quays, the overall schedule and budget is broadly on target. There's a week here or there, but it's nothing of any significance."

Developers say the vision for Waterford North Quays aligns with the predicted growth of the region and will create a sustainable, compact extension to the City Centre that will serve a future population of 83,000 people; act as regeneration catalyst for the City and Region and establish a sustainable modern City quarter; develop an integrated multi-modal transport hub designed to sustainably meet the access requirement of the City, and build on the context and the riverside location of the site and set up a high quality urban quarter as a natural extension to the City Centre.
