An inquest into the death of a 23-year-old man who died five days after getting the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccine continued in Cork today.

Cork Coroner's Court heard that Roy Butler, of O’Reilly Road in Waterford, died of a catastrophic brain bleed on August 17th, 2021.

Medical safety officers at Johnson and Johnson, doctors, and the Assistant State Pathologist could not make a causal link between a spontaneous intra-cerebral hemorrhage and the vaccine.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster said although Mr Butler’s death was extremely rare, more evidence would be needed to connect the brain bleed with the vaccine adding that she could not “rule it in or rule it out”.

She described his death as “baffling" and "extremely rare".

Coroner Philip Comyn said he would deliver his verdict in the coming weeks.
