From midnight tonight, a new search and rescue helicopter will operate from the Waterford base, as the EI-IRG AgustaWestland AW189, operated by Bristow Ireland, officially takes over duties.

The change marks the end of an era for Rescue 117, whose crews have served the region with distinction for many years. Their professionalism and commitment have seen thousands of missions completed and hundreds of lives saved.

Tributes have been paid to the Rescue 117 team for their dedication and service, with best wishes extended to them for the future.

Attention now turns to the crews of Bristow Ireland, who will provide the vital search and rescue service in the future from Waterford.
