New regulations for e-scooters take effect from today.

The scooters are now officially legal to use on public roads - but only for those over 16 travelling under 20 kilometres per hour.

A public information campaign outlining how e-scooters can be enjoyed and used safely will also be introduced.

Last year, more than 220 e-scooter collisions were recorded by Gardaí.

An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority have been involved in the development of these regulations and Gardaí will be responsible for their enforcement.
