Plans have been approved for a new fire service station in Kilmacthomas.
Elected Councillors from Waterford City and County Council green lit the project during January's Comeragh district meeting.
Des Hoctor of Waterford Fire Service provided a presentation regarding the plans during the local district meeting during which he outlined that the cost of the project could total two million Euro.
The location of the new station will be the R667, approximately one kilometre from the town.
A locker room, showers, showers, toilets, drying room, training room and drill tower are proposed for the facility.
There will be space for two fire service vehicles and 12 personnel.
The project was met with unanimous support with work is estimated to begin towards the end of 2025.
Fine Gael Councillor and Cathaoirleach for the Comeragh district Seanie Power praised the plans designs.
"It looks a fabulous building. New facilities in that area will be welcome because we've seen over the last number of years the service they provide."
Meanwhile, Fine Gael Cllr Liam Brazil welcomed the proposal stating that the current building in Kilmacthomas is not 'fit for purpose'.
"Where they are at the moment, they can't even have a shower there, they can't change their clothes. These are things that people in the public don't see."
