Waterford will soon have two centres to support people with dementia.
A new facility is set to open in Dungarvan for people who are at home living with dementia, and they will get daycare respite.
At the moment, there is just one on the Passage Road in Waterford City.
From May, services will be offered from Saturdays in Dungarvan to enable access to resources for those who live outside the city.
Speaking on Déise Today, Junior Minister for Older People, Mary Butler says it's an important development.
'When you get that diagnosis initially that you have dementia, there is a huge shock. Some people even find there is a stigma associated with it. It's so important that you have supports on the ground."
Working closely with Déise Daycare in Dungarvan and the Alzheimers Society of Ireland, Minister Butler says up to now, there was nothing in place for people in West Waterford and Dungarvan.
