A Labour election candidate for Portlaw-Kilmacthomas believes the greenway will attract non-tourism related businesses to the area.
Kilmacthomas has flourished since the walk and cycle path opened a little over two years ago.
The newest additions to the town are the Breakwater gift shop across from Coach House Coffee and a cafe on Main Street.

Ger Barron says there’s plenty happening in the area
“The Greenway has been the catalyst for all of this, none of this would have happened without the Greenway.
“My opinion is that the Greenway will increase the quality of life in the area enough to attract non-tourist businesses here
“Companies will look at where they can locate their industry, there’s good broadband, good quality of life here and we have all the amenities.
“Companies are very conscious of the quality of life of life for their employees so if they’re looking for somewhere, this is the ideal place, it wasn’t before but it is now.”
He says it’s a settled area: “Property prices are good.
“I would also see the Greenway being extended possibly to Bonmahon and possibly to Mahon Falls.”
Ger Barron says Breakwater gift shop and the new cafe are great additions
“Breakwater is a beautiful, beautiful little shop.
“Made on Main, the new coffee shop, is going to make another great addition to what is a new tourist destination.”
