A new app has been launched to promote County Waterford as a destination.
The 'Explore More Waterford' app is free to download and was produced as part of the newly-launched Visitor Experience Development plan for the county.
Robbie Galvin of the Copper Coast Unesco Global Geopark is one of those involved.
He explains how the app works:
"It's a GPS-guided app that will pinpoint where the visitor is and allow them to see what else is available near them or elsewhere in Waterford, based on either the region - such as the Copper Coast, the Blackwater, the Gaeltacht, etc - or their interests. That could be what they're interested in as an individual or as a family.
"It's a great way to learn more about Waterford, whether you're a visitor or even if you already live in Waterford and are eager to learn what else is available."
Robbie says he believes it will be a great asset for the county:
"Even if you look back to 2018, Waterford got nearly 800,000 visitors from elsewhere in Ireland and from overseas, and tourism supported thousands of jobs here - directly and indirectly.
"What this app and what this plan does is all about maximising the benefit that people get from tourism within rural Waterford. That's not just about increasing numbers, that's about creating a stronger, more attractive product that will really stand out within Ireland and further afield."
The Visitor Experience Development Plan has been co-funded by the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and Waterford County Council.
And Robbie Galvin says it is a wide-ranging document:
"The plan itself is really about attracting and maintaining maximum benefit from tourism within Waterford. It's heightening new direct visitors and also encouraging visitors who are coming to a traditional tourism destination - like the city, Dungarvan, Tramore, or the Greenway - to get out and about and explore more of the county.
"So, to do that, we define the county as having five zones of interest: the Copper Coast, the Gaeltacht, the Blackwater Valley, the Comeragh Uplands, and Waterford Estuary."
The Explore More Waterford App is available for download for iOS and Android, just search ‘Explore More Waterford’ from the Apple App Store or through the Google Play Store.
