National Slowdown Day is underway, with extra speed checks taking place on roads across Waterford today.
It started at 7 this morning and ends at 7 tomorrow morning.
One of the detections so far today was a driver doing 116 in a 100 kilometre per hour zone on the n25 near Kilmeaden.
Gardaí say the aim of Slowdown Day is to get people to be more aware of the speeds they do and to reduce the number of speed-related collisions.
In the first 2 hours of the 24 hour National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speed of 19,246 vehicles and detected 153 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
