Motorists advised to take care on Waterford roads this morning

Motorists in Waterford are being advised to take extra care on the roads this morning in the aftermath of Storm Ellen.

It struck Ireland overnight and Met Éireann says it will remain very windy today.

There have been reports of branches and debris on many Waterford roads, with areas in the west of the county affected in particular.

Currently there is a tree down on the Greenway on the Dungarvan side of Sea Park.

The road is blocked on the way to Rathgormack from Carrick-on-Suir side.

There is debris on Lismore/Dungarvan Road.

There are lots of branches down on the Mt Congreve road. Parts of the road partially blocked - but passable.

In the Ballyquin area outside of Carrick-on-Suir, the road is covered with branches and debris - there's also an ESB cable hanging loose along one section of the road.

Coming down the Scrowty into Portlaw the road is littered with debris, with plenty of branches covering it.

The Dungarvan/Ballymacarbary Road is being described as dangerous too.

There is fallen debris scattered along the N-72 between Lismore and Tallow and County Bounds, people are being asked to proceed with extreme caution.

In Waterford City there is a tree down in Earlscourt.

Meanwhile

Over 1,800 homes are without power across county Waterford following last night's storm.

The worst hit areas include Kilmacthomas (1,033) Tallow (542) and Ardmore (286.)

ESB say that crews are currently working to restore supply to those affected.
