Storm Eowyn has been named by the British Met Office.

On Thursday night and Friday, the Low-Pressure system is forecast to track across Ireland.

Met Éireann is warning of very strong to gale force winds across the country with the potential for damaging wind gusts and disruption in places.

Transitory falls of sleet and snow are expected too, especially across west and northwest counties.

High seas and spells of heavy rain are expected also. Met Éireann is continuously monitoring the evolving situation and weather warnings will be issued as confidence in the forecast track/intensity of the Low-Pressure system improves.

Separately, a status yellow fog warning has been issued for Waterford. Fourteen other counties also come under the warning.

It's valid from 10 o'clock tonight (Tuesday) until 10:00 am tomorrow Wednesday.

Met Éireann is warning of impaired visibility, with particular caution given to motorists.
