Renowned local businessman and architect Martin Tritschler has died at the age of 72.
The Tritschler family are German, but have been in Waterford since 1859. Martin's father, Paul married a local woman, Kitty - and their name has been synonymous with Waterford for decades.
Martin studied architecture at DIT, Bolton Street, and worked in London for a few years. He then qualified as an architect in 1974 in Dublin and gained extensive experience with Richard Seifert & Partners in London, working in their Red Lion Square and Shaftesbury offices, primarily on office, retain and commercial projects in London and residential projects in Manchester.
Martin commenced the practice TTA architects in 1986 in Waterford, with his wife Mary Kavanagh in their studios at 21 William Street.
The practice consists of architects, interior architects, urban and master planners, project managers and architectural technologists. TTA has carried out projects in commercial, retail parks, industrial, educational, healthcare/hospitals, hotels, sports & leisure facilities and conservation/restoration of cathedrals.
The practice has grown steadily over the past 25 years in combining innovation in design, sustainability.
Martin Tritschler served as the President of Waterpark Rugby Club while he was also a prominent member of the Dunmore East Tidy Towns group.
