A local councillor has claimed that the appearance of Manor Street offers a "very poor impression" of Waterford City.
Green Party Councillor Cristiona Kiely has noted that the street is one of the areas of Waterford City designated as having a segregated cycle line.
She told this month's Metropolitan District meeting of Waterford City & County Council, said the street seems "extremely dilapidated."
"This area was described by somebody a couple of weeks ago as a ghetto. It's hard to disagree with that statement. On Manor Street, we have dereliction and rubbish on the streets. There was an armchair out on the street the other day. Anyone passing could have sat down, put their feet up, and had a cup of tea."
Cllr. Kiely believes a permanent cycle lane must replace the temporary bollards on Manor Street.
In recent months, many of the temporary bollards have become loose or have been knocked down entirely. Cllr. Kiely says they are now a safety risk.
"We need to deal with that now as soon as possible. We're a laughing stock. When I go online, I wait to see more photos of more bollards being removed - or more photos of another near-miss of an accident. We know that we're putting in segregation there, can we not just put it in now? Those bollards are ugly, dangerous and continuously being removed."
Niall Kane, Senior Executive Engineer with Waterford Council, said they are aware of the rundown appearance of the street.
"Dumping in Manor Street is something we are continuously addressing and something that we are aware of. We regularly have to clean up the area and it is something that we are aware of. It's something that we endeavour to tackle as best we can."
