A 31 year old man has been charged with the murder of Ashling Murphy.

Jozef Puska, with an address at Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, County Offaly appeared before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court this evening.

He has been remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison by Judge Catherine Staines, to appear at Cloverhill District Court on January 26th.

Detective Sergeant David Scahill said the accused replied “No” when cautioned and charged earlier.

Mr Puska was arrested on Tuesday morning after being discharged from a Dublin hospital.

23 year old primary school teacher Ashling was fatally assaulted along the canal bank at Cappincur, Tullamore at approximately 4pm on Wednesday January 12th. She had been out jogging along the popular route.

There's been a huge outpouring of grief following the death of the talented musician, whose funeral was held Tuesday morning at St Brigid's Church, Mountbolus, County Offaly.

Dozens of vigils were held countrywide in honour of Ashling, including 10 in Waterford City and County.
