A man in his 40s has appeared before Waterford District Court charged in connection with a fatal road traffic collision which claimed the lives of two teenagers.

On June 27th, 2024, Gardaí responded to a call on the Cork Road, Waterford at 02:10am.

A collision had occurred between a bus and an e-scooter.

15-year-old Gilbert Collins was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 17-year-old friend Avu Idris was pronounced dead later that day at University Hospital Waterford.

Adrian Doyle (42), who had been driving the bus, appeared before Judge Kevin Staunton today in Waterford District Court.

Mr Doyle of Ard Glas, Abbey Road, Ferrybank, was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed a trial on indictment.

Mr. Doyle will appear before Waterford District Court on May 6th for production of the Book of Evidence.

Bail was approved by Judge Kevin Staunton on the accused’s own bond of €300.
