Gardaí responded to an incident on the evening of Thursday 9th May 2024 in the Grand Canal Square area of Dublin 2, following concerns about the alleged activities of a male in the area.
An Garda Síochána continues to carry out enquiries into the exact nature of this incident and to attempt to independently verify the concerns.
Vidoes of the aftermath of the ordeal have been widely shared online in recent hours.
An Garda Síochána would appeal to any person in the Grand Canal Square area of Dublin 2 between 5 pm and 6 pm, who directly observed a male acting in a concerning manner, or who has direct knowledge of any incident occurring in the area, or who has any video footage of an incident that occurred to contact Pearse Street Garda Station at 01-6669000.
A male in his 20s, at the scene, failed to engage with members of An Garda Síochána and was subsequently arrested under the Public Order Act and taken to a Garda Station in the Dublin Region.
He has since been charged with several public order offences and will appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin at 10:30 am on Friday 10th May 2024.
