On the last day of the month, one of Waterford City's most recognisable stores will close.
In a social media post, Walsh's Lotto Shop, which is located on Fountain Street in Ferrybank, announced its impending shutdown and partially attributed the decreased foot traffic to nearby building work.
The shop proprietors claimed in their web post that the choice to shut down after 27 years was among the most difficult ones they had ever had to make.
"This has been the hardest decision we have had to make, but after 27 years, we find ourselves in the unfortunate position of having to cease trade at the end of the month. It is out of our control due to the recent construction work next door which has resulted in insufficient parking access for our customers. This in turn has reduced footfall through our doors. We are also mindful that the volume of construction traffic may potentially cause health and safety concerns for our customers. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to all our loyal customers who have supported us down through the years. Finally, a huge thank you to our current and past staff for their hard work and commitment that was always very much appreciated."
