The potential of a Windfarm in Rural Waterford remains a concern for residents' in the Comeragh District. That's the message from local councillor Seanie Power, who was speaking in relation to the Coumnagappul Windfarm in the Western Foothills of the Comeragh Mountains. If approved, the farm would be home to Ireland's largest wind turbines to date, consisting of 10 turbines over 211 hectares.
Speaking to WLR News at the latest Comeragh Meeting of Waterford Council, Councillor Power says there are other options.
"We are having a special meeting here on January 30th about Coumnagappul Wind Farm. They are going out on the mountains and hills, and people are concerned, especially those living near them.
"We have Waterford as the best place to live, and have had great publicity for Waterford in recent weeks, and I suppose it is a shame if they were to be put there. We have had a lot of meetings regarding offshore wind turbines, and I think that is the place for them to go.
"I know we are talking about reaching our targets by 2030, but I think we need to steady up and look at other options. If we get them offshore, they will interfere with the least amount of people but you can't keep everyone happy. I think that the place for them to go is offshore."
