A local councillor has raised concerns about the reliability of TFI bus services across Waterford City, deeming the service ‘Unfit for purpose’
Fine Gael Councillor Frank Quinlan highlighted that a significant number of buses were cancelled last week alone, leaving residents without transport and causing disruption to daily routines.
Speaking to WLR, Councillor Quinlan outlined that a number of buses were cancelled in Waterford last week alone.
“The TFI system in waterford is not sufficient, no consideration is taken into account for the passengers and customers, with no care for how they will get to their destinations”
“Passengers are left in limbo at the side of the road in all sorts of weather conditions.”
Public transport users in Waterford are facing ongoing challenges with unreliable bus services.
Councillor Quinlan, said that many people rely on these buses to get to work, school, and essential appointments.
He continued to say that if buses continue to be unreliable, people will no longer want to use them.
“People are depending on this so called reliable service, only to be told that busses are cancelled on short notice, why would you even want to get a bus now, when the service is so unreliable.”
Councillor Quinlan went on to say it is disappointing that passengers are being left behind, but emphasised that the problems stem from ageing and poorly maintained buses, not from the drivers themselves.
Councillor Quinlan said buses themselves are being abandoned across the city broken down.
“its very disappointing to see, and its not the drivers fault, the busses are very old now and theyre not being maintained, you’re seeing busses abandoned at the side of the road on the quay and in Hillview, its not good enough.”
