A 13-year-old student from Ardscoil na Mara in Tramore won an individual award at this year's BT Young Scientist Exhibition.
Waterford's Cian Ó Cadhla secured a second in the biological and ecological junior category.
His project - Rewilding Ireland - looked at whether Ireland could sustain a Grey Wolf population to naturally control the deer population.
Cian says he would love a career in ecology in the future."I would say it is my path in life - certainly something along the lines of biology or ecology.
"Rewilding like this will play a large role in fighting the climate crisis just because healthy environments store a lot more carbon and produce a lot more oxygen.
"This is my first year entering, but it is certainly not going to be my last year," he said.
