Lisa Smith has appeared in court charged with membership of a terrorist organisation.
The 38-year-old was taken to the Criminal Courts of Justice at around 11 am for the court hearing.
The court heard the Dundalk woman made no reply when the charge was put to her at Kevin Street Garda Station this morning.
Gardaí successfully objected to bail on a number of grounds.
She has been remanded to Dochas Women's Prison to appear again on December 11th.
Ms Smith travelled to territory controlled by the so-called Islamic State group three years ago but maintains she was not involved in any fighting.
The former Irish Defence Forces member was arrested at Dublin Airport after arriving on a plane from Turkey with her daughter.
She was questioned about her movements and activities abroad by members of the Garda Special Detective Unit for the third night last.
Gardaí said she was being held under the Offences against the State Act, which allows for a total period of detention of 72 hours.
Her daughter is currently being cared for by family members.
