Large sperm whale sighted in Waterford Estuary

Members of the public are advised to give space to a sperm whale which has been sighted in the Waterford Estuary.
The 35-40ft animal has been spotted this afternoon.

Speaking to WLR, Gemma O’Connor, Live Stranding Co-ordinator with the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group noted that the whale appears “emaciated”.
She said it’s important that the whale is allowed space and that the area around the whale remains calm.
“It’s clearly unwell and needs peace and quiet,” she said.
