The lack of respect shown to Waterford Council in relation to turning the former Lismore House Hotel into a Direct Provision Centre has been highlighted.
Speaking at yesterday's Dungarvan/Lismore District Council meeting, Councillor Mairead Tobin outlined the abuse she has been subjected to since news of the plan emerged.
Along with fellow Councillors, she criticised the lack of engagement with the local authority.
"What I would find most upsetting is the complete and utter lack of respect shown to us as local representatives, representing our people in our areas, that we weren't informed."
She added: "It has to be voiced that there was a complete lack of respect shown to Waterford city and county also. They either want local people to represent local issues or they want to take us out of it completely."
67 women and children began moving in to the former hotel on January 30, following recent hopes that the former hotel would return as a spa hotel with the aim of boosting tourism locally.
Last week, CEO of Waterford Council, Michael Walsh said there was absolutely no consultation with the council about any direct provision centre in the Lismore region.
More refugees are expected to arrive at the hotel later this month and again in March.
