Three rural Waterford communities are set to receive €50,000 in government funding.
Under the 2020 CLÁR scheme. Knockanore, Clashmore and Kilrossanty will receive funding towards the provision of safety measures such as traffic calming, public lighting and footpaths in their communities.
CLÁR provides funding for small scale projects in designated rural areas that have experienced significant levels of population decline. The programme is one element of the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Rural Development Investment Programme, which provides a package of co-ordinated and complementary supports for rural areas.
Fine Gael Senator John Cummins said “The projects announced today will help to improve safety around schools and community facilities and I know they will warmly welcomed in these three vibrant communities.
He added “I’d like to compliment the community groups in these areas who have worked extensively on these applications in conjunction with Waterford City & County Council and I hope that work will be able to commence on these projects without delay”.
Speaking at the announcement Minister Heather Humphreys said “Since the CLÁR Programme was re-introduced in 2016, it has provided funding to over 1,400 projects under various measures.
"There was a high level of interest in the CLÁR programme once again this year and I am pleased to be able to approve funding for 115 projects around the country under Measures 1 and 2 of the programme. I know this funding will help to improve the quality of life for people in many rural communities.
