Kilkenny County Council Director of Service for Economic Employment, Seán McKeown is understood to be dropping the black and amber for white and blue.
It's expected Mr. Keown will take up the role of CEO in the coming days.
Mr. Michael Walsh stood down as CEO of Waterford Council in April last, where the position is yet to be officially filled.
Mr. Walsh has held the role since 2014, having worked with the local authority since 2000 - and has been credited with playing a key role in the establishment of the Waterford Greenway, the South East Technological University and the commencement of the North Quays Development.
WLR has reached out for comment to Waterford Council for an official confirmation.
