The Junior Transport Minister says the government is "keenly aware" of the importance of Waterford Airport and committed to "accelerating" the timeline in relation to work on its business case.

Jack Chambers was speaking to WLR News at the Port of Waterford this morning as he attended briefings to discuss the future of both the port and airport.

"We had a positive meeting on the airport and there has been extensive engagement between the Department and Waterford Airport on their business proposal," he said.

"We're trying to accelerate the timeline around that and there is extensive engagement between both parties before recommendations or decisions are made within the Department."

He added: "We're keenly aware of the interest and ambition in the region when it comes to the airport. It was great to have good strategic meetings this morning in relation to both the port and airport."
