Minister of State John Halligan is expected to confirm later this week that he's not standing in the General Election.
The Independent TD for Waterford is making the decision for personal reasons.
He has been involved in politics for five decades.
Transport Minister Shane Ross indicated earlier today he felt Minister Halligan would retire.

It’s believed Minister Halligan's brother Brendan has not yet ruled out running in his place and will make a decision later in the week.
