Waterford Minister of State John Halligan has accused his Independent Alliance colleague, Sports Minister Shane Ross of giving f**k all to his constituency in the allocation of sports capital grants.
A total of 37 million euro was distributed to 994 different projects with thirty-three sports clubs and organisations across Waterford city and county receiving more than one million euro.
The clash happened at the weekly meeting of the four-member alliance, attended by Shane Ross, John Halligan, Finian McGrath and Kevin Boxer Moran.
The Irish Times reports that sources said Mr Halligan was shouting and roaring on Tuesday about the sports capital grants, saying this is not good enough and that Waterford got f**k all.
Mr Ross is said to have pointed out that Waterford clubs were given funding and defended the system of allocating sports grants.
He said the scheme is transparent, is points-based and was hugely oversubscribed this year.
Sources close to Mr Ross said he and Mr Halligan concluded the discussion amicably and that there is no lingering ill-feeling.
Sources close to Mr Halligan said “mild words were had” but insisted there was “no blazing row”. However, another figure close to the Alliance said: “Ross didn’t deliver for Halligan – that’s the problem.”
Last week Minister John Halligan told WLR News that the allocation of grants was a substantial investment for Waterford.
They include St Anne's Waterford Tennis Club which will receive over 69-thousand euro, Lismore GAA will get almost 64-thousand euro, and over 55-thousand euro will go to Waterpark Rugby Football Club.
