Two competitors die in Youghal Ironman event

Two competitors have died while taking part in an Ironman event in Youghal this morning.

Both men were participants in the event and they died in separate incidents. They were taking part in a 1.7km swim when they got into difficulties.

Both men, one aged in his mid-60s and the other in his mid-40s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The swim had been shortened from an original distance of 3.8km, and had been postponed on account of Storm Betty.
