After three years of work behind the scenes, the Silver Museum has opened its doors at the Deanery in Waterford city centre.

It's Ireland's only dedicated Irish silver museum.

Run as part of the Museum of Treasures, it won't be officially opened until restrictions allow, but for the moment it's free to small numbers of visitors and contains a fascinating collection of silver through the ages.

Eamon McAneaney is Director of the Museum of Treasures he says there is an amazing collection that includes Viking silver, pieces that belonged to historic figures like Dean Swift and some of the finest examples of Irish craftsmanship in history.
