Investigations are ongoing in Tramore following what Gardaí have described as an assault, which occurred in the Beech Park area of the town.

Last night shortly before 7pm, Gardaí responded to reports of an incident involving young males.

A male youth, aged 17, was injured in the course of the incident and taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of his injuries.

It’s understood that a knife, described as a machete-type implement, was used in the course of the assault.

The youth’s injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

Investigation

In the course of their investigations, Gardaí arrested an adult male, aged in his late teens.

He has since been released without charge and a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Additionally, Gardaí also arrested a male youth, aged in his late teens.

He has since been released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme.

Investigations remain ongoing.
